Started our troll near Lavallette after disappointing bird activity. Read alot of bait and better marks of fish in 48 feet of water. Trolled Secret Spoons, Shad Rigs, Stretch 30+, and 7 oz. Krocodiles. We used 7' Med/Heavy Rods with Abu 6500's, spooled with 50 lb and 65 lb. Power Pro. We ended up catching all the blues you wanted up to 12 lbs., and one Bass that was 27.9999999"'s!
90% of the fish, including the bass fell victim to the 7 oz. Krocs. We had no problem reaching the proper depth using Power Pro and the set ups are the ones we use for jigging, fluking, all-around, etc. Really nice being abe to see the strikes, feel the fish, and have enough backbone using those set ups as opposed to trolling with dedicated wire set ups. I really think the Power Pro trolling is the way to go! We switch back and forth using them for trolling and when the birds are working we put on the Krocs, Diamond Jigs, Ava's, etc. for jigging.
By the way.....when trolling the Krocs we would use a 6 foot shot of 60 to 80 lb. fluoro and a 6 or 8 oz. trolling sinker in front of the Kroc. The Secret Spoons were sent without any weight because they have enough weight already. The Shad Rigs we also used a 6 oz. trolling weight on the same leader and for the Stretch's we used just a leader.

Great report Joe. Glad to see you getting out on the water.

Thanks for the tip on trolling the Krocs. I'm going to give it a go next time out. I've always done very well jigging them, it's the first thing that goes in the water when the blues and bass are around.

The power pro is very user friendly, all my bass trolling set ups are spooled with it.

Unfortunately my son caught it and I had to measure it 4 times!....but that is what keeps him honest and coming back to do it again until it works out for him. I told him he will have his day!

They are great lures Rich.......and I couldn't be happier to see how well the smaller trolling outfits work with the braid...really fun fishing!

Larry....might I add that Joey was the high hook!! (Please no comments Jeff) he is a real trooper putting his time in. He knows his time will come. Thanks.

Joe,

I know that you were working hard at running the boat and unhooking Joey's fish, so naturally he would be high hook. It in no way is a reflection on your abilities...... Don't sweat it buddy, your day will come. wink
