Strut which held the prop shaft in place let go and sent the 21" prop thru the bottom of the hull causing a 1'x 1'hole that you gould pass a football thru. The bilges could not keep up and the boat was down in 20 minutes.

struck a truck???

I know a guy who has hit multiple telephone poles in Raritan Bay (not me by the way) and has never had any water come in. Bent struts, shafts and wheels but no water intrusion.

Yup, that's what I was told. Not only one to do so according to reports. If you were around back then you may remember that Barnegat Bay froze over. There were all kinds of vehicles riding on the ice. Word has it that 12 went thru the ice & all but 4 were retrieved. I found one of them. That winter,we(family)were heading across Route 37 bridge and saw all these idiots spinning around on the ice. Of course my kids wanted dad to do the same, yeah right.

Went across they bay in a VW beetle. I was born in '65 and must have been 9-11 years old when we went accross. Leaving LBI in the winter

We did skate on my grandmother's lagoon in Manahawkin a few times when that froze. Thinking back probably not one of the brightest things we have done but not the worst...wink

Was pulling skiers behind a moped that year on the ice, remember hearing about someone driving a volkswagen across it.

For a while, I lived real close to the Monksville reservoir up in ringwood. Everyone up there had ice boats. Sail boats on rails. They are freaken fast.

Also, a record 42 lb muskie was caught through the ice there.

Not trying to be a smart a.s.s but what track do we need to stay on? Its a picture of a sinking boat and we know what happened

Just seemed like a natural evolution of a thread. I put up the VW beetle comment in response to another comment. I see threads that go on for 5-10 pages and if you look at the last page it has nothing to do with the first. I was just wondering

Yeah, and I know I am guilty at times. We are trying to keep those to a minimum. I would be all for someone posting a pic of the frozen bay from 76. Even though I was 4 I remember the Delaware river be frozen as well as the Barnegat bay.

ok I will bring the thread back to its original intent..

The owner of that boat should have bought a whaler.

not sure where that info came from...??? that rig was,is,the dream catcher...the boat hit a partially submerged object offshore in the white marlin open a few years ago...that boat is actually sitting in a local boat yard...it was salvaged...
