Description
Hit a lake a block from my house. Grew up fishing the lake as a kid but haven't really fished it in 10+ years. Never caught fish like I did last night before. Fished for a little over an hour and managed 5 picks, 5 bass, a big pumpkinseed and I what I think is a crappie. Not sure maybe one could confirm it. It fought the hardest out of all the fish. Everything hit a 2 3/4" Rapala floater in silver and black.

That's a crappie alright.Looks like a fun day. I grew up in East Brunswick and all my fishing was fresh water back then. Crappies on killies was an early season thing. Good Eating!

Thanks, I was pretty sure it was one but have never caught one before of even heard of one caught in the lakes in town. Also based on the pics what kind of bass are those? I am thinking largemouth based off of some pics online but not positive.

Dan, those are largemouth. If you had caught a smallmouth, you would definitely not be saying that the crappie fought the hardest. Smallmouth are some of the best fighting, if not THE best freshwater fish to catch!

Looks like you had a great day. Makes me want to break out my freshwater tackle that hasn't been used in way too long!!

All nice, but I like the crappie best! Caught some myself last nite in the local waters.

Largemouth are on the greenish side. Smallmouth are more bronze or brown. Also if you close the mouth the hinge part of the jaw goes to or just past the eye of the largemouth. A smallmouth also has twice the fight than the largemouth. Hope you kissed them all before releasing like Jimmy Houston. clapping
