Is that the bow or the stern of the boat that's on fire? Can't tell from the pic.Do they know what caused it? Hope noboby was injured.

Saw the smoke while we were fishing the tires on saturday and heard a report on the radio..Hope no one was injured.

This was most certainly a very unfortunate incident. I understand that the female on the boat took some of the blast upon ignition and jumped from the aft of boat into the water as she was burned. I was told that her clothing was burned on her backside. The folks are just across from my slip in Long Key and were warming up the engines getting ready for their outing. I Left my slip just moments prior to them and proceeded out into the bay. They stopped at the gas dock for a fuel purchase. I was told that upon starting the engine or engines there was a flash fire. Some of my friends who slip near us were within 75-100 feet of the boat when it went up. They felt the concussion and heat wave.

This can only stress the need for continued vigilance and boat safety by boat owners. It is also the sentiment of all at Long Key that the injured make a speedy recovery. Our hats go off to the staff at Long Key for their quick actions in avoiding further damage. There certainly were a lot of shaken folks at Long Key this past Saturday.

4 people on the boat when it blew the female in the back had second degree burns over 50% of here body another male in the back received some burns to his legs the captain on the bridge was unhurt as for the man on the bow. Could have been a lot worse lets hope the female makes a speedy recovery.

Burns take a long time to recover, but like you said it could have been worse. Scary stuff, any idea what happened? Gas or diesel boat? Fuel related accident?

im sure it was gas Scott, never heard of a diesel blowing up, you inboard gas guys, check your blowers and use them correctly....scary stuff, hope all involved make out ok.

The woman was air lifted to St. Barnabus (not sure of the spelling) Burn Center. I here she is in a drug induced coma. The other burn victim, who is a friend of mind, was orignally transported to SOCH. From there he was sent to St. Barnabus as well. He is awake and recovering. Kudos to the staff and my friends at Long Key for getting the situation under control, rescuing those in the water, and treating the victims before EMS arrived.

I was fueling up at the dock when they pulled in and docked in front of me and started fueling up as well. When I pulled away,they were still fueling up . Saw the smoke when we were at the end of the stakes in the bay,but didn't realize it was at the dock till I talked to someone later on the radio. We thought it was a car fire on route 9. What a horrible thing. Made me realize how close we were as it must have happened just a few minutes after we left the fuel dock.

I saw you pull in to the gas dock when I was coming up that way. I was glad you made it out of there before the fire. Judy of Long Key told me a deck hatch blew out into the canal in front of the pump area. If anyone was passing the dock it could have been worse.

I was watching her untie the bow lines of their boat as they moored across from me and over a few slips. Just seemed like a normal day looking forward to a day out on the water. Who would imagine 20 minutes later they are facing this terrible situation. We are all praying for them.

If my wife hadn't of had her surgery last week I would have been passing the fuel dock, or pulling in right about that time. Scary Stuff
